Tim Gray is the Executive Director of Environmental Defence, a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with the government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. Tim is responsible for leading the organization’s initiatives to safeguard Canada’s freshwater, stop urban sprawl, get toxic chemicals out of the products we use, clean up plastic pollution and transition Canadians from using dirty fossil fuels to modern, clean energy.

As a well-respected Canadian environmental leader, Tim’s expertise in forest conservation, climate change and sustainable cities has helped create hundreds of new parks, a new ecolabel systems for wood and aggregate, stronger laws to protect the Greenbelt, action on single-use plastics and climate action plans in Ontario, Alberta and federally.

Tim is a go-to contact for governments and industry looking for someone with extensive environmental knowledge who has a practical understanding of how to solve complex problems.

Tim was a founding Board member of Global Forest Watch Canada and Wildlife Conservation Society Canada and his current commitments include membership on the Board of Directors of Evidence for Democracy.

Tim obtained an H.BSc. in Biology from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario in 1987 and a M.Sc. in Botany/Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto in 1992.

Tim grew up on the shores of Lake Huron and acquired his love of nature there. He relaxes by building things, hiking and canoeing.
