
Steve Kent
Former Deputy Premier and Minister, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Steve Kent is a transformational leader with more than 25 years of experience in public service, political leadership, and community development. A former Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services for Newfoundland and Labrador, he led over 17,000 employees and managed a $3‑billion health budget, advancing primary care reform, modernizing health professions, and improving mental health and addictions services through an all‑party committee process he chaired.
At the municipal level, Steve served as Mayor of the City of Mount Pearl, driving digital transformation and citizen‑centred service delivery. Earlier in his career, he led Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland, growing its reach more than tenfold, and served as Manager of Corporate Development for the province’s largest media company.
A recognized advocate for youth leadership, Steve is currently an elected member of the World Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and a former Chief Commissioner of Scouts Canada. He has chaired national boards, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and Give A Mile and also serves as President of Public Sector Partners for Progress.
Steve is currently the President of FOCUS Group Consulting Incorporated. Steve holds a Master of Management from McGill University and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
